Hi, just bought atlas directory and have downloaded it and saved it but I can’t figure out how to open it and start to use it.

It is a WP theme so you have to set up and install it on your domain and hosting.

There is documentation that comes with the theme to help (although it probably assumes you have already got WP set up for the theme to be installed). Beyond that you can contact the author here http://support.themesdepot.org/

What if I just wanted to play around with the directory theme and don’t want to link it to my host site yet. Is that possible?

You could host it locally if you understand how to do that or you could create a sub domain on your host and do it there
