First item, first rejection. Community help needed.

Hello everyone,

tried to upload my first item last night and got a tough rejection ‘Every aspect of your design will need to be improved, significantly’. Auch. The problem is that personally I think that the template is beautiful. I really like it, Forrst likes it. I was even able to land a job with it and my employer later said it was the best he has ever seen. But somehow TF thought differently. I am willing to modify it, but I have no idea how.

Maybe experienced TF could share some advice?

I’ve made 8 skins so far. Instead I’m thinking to stick only with 3, but make them quite different. For that I would be really grateful if you choose which skins do you like the most?

So what don’t you like about the template? Fluid layout? Too much whitespace? Solid colors? Any TF-related feedback is really appreciated.

I think the demo is the problem, too basic, particularly at the top. Spend time on getting the demo content right.

Some of my thoughts. Don’t mind the humor – not to insult your work, just to keep it light. Besides, I’m no expert like some of the superstars here.

I loaded it up and instantly went “Wow that’s a bit empty and plain” but as soon as I scrolled down I loved it. If you removed the ‘About Me’ section it’d look ace! Maybe you should remove that and add it further down but with more compact and filling content.

Looks great though, I’d be proud to use that as a CV, nice work man.

I had the same thoughts as iDemonix. Overall I really like it. It’s clean and simple with some neat little transitions. I would think there would be plenty of potential buyers who would like the option to have a theme like this… But, I can’t say what the reviewers are looking for. I’m not having the best of luck getting my themes approved either.

Haha, “typography on crystal”. I’ve found your comments incredibly helpful. Since the layout is fluid, you get quite lot of white space on monitors of your size. I’ve decided to make it fixed. This is exactly what I did. Will try to resubmit tomorrow and see how it goes. It looks more of TF style now, although I personally liked the former version better.

This was the goal, to make it simple, but solid, just like the CV should be. That’s why there were no noised textures, gradients or fancy slideshows. Only three colors and strong typography (in my personal taste, of course). The only features were responsiveness & mobile support, which actually took some time to accomplish. It’s a pity that the first-impression simplicity it looked like a freebee for the reviewer.

Now I’ve made it a bit more usual. What do you think?

Well done, looks a million times better!

My only remaining gripe, from a strictly personal perspective, would be the center aligned text pyramid of skills at the bottom. If you need a bit of peeking, take a look at the graphic river link below and see how you can present skills in a more visually appealing way.
