Update: Changes have now been deployed as of August 17.

Hi everyone,

We’re Fixing the Item Upload Progress Bar

It hasn’t been ideal that the Item Upload Progress Bar has been broken for a long time now, but we’re happy to report that we’ve got a solution in the works! We’d like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused many of you but wanted to give you a heads-up about the improvement on its way.

The Story So Far

When it was originally released, the Item Upload Progress Bar was intended to provide authors with a visual indication of how items were progressing through the review queue system to make it easier for authors to monitor their submissions.

Unfortunately, the Upload Progress Bar stopped being useful when we made necessary internal system changes to help fine-tune the review process. Details about the fine-tuning process were made available by Jarel. These changes meant that the progress bar could no longer be relied upon as an indicator of actual progress or the true position of an item in the queue. This understandably led to a lot of confusion for our authors which we sincerely apologize for. Furthermore, we would like to apologize for the long delay prioritizing this project amongst all our other work. We know this is important to you and we’re really thankful for your patience.

We have been busy growing and redefining the Review Team to help address issues like this more quickly going forward. Although it may seem like changes have been slow, we have spent a lot of time behind the scenes hiring and training new team members and making some organizational changes along the way. Again, we’re looking forward to sharing more specific details about the Review Team in a future announcement, but nevertheless, no excuses are implied here for the delay resolving the broken functionality and purpose of the Upload Progress Bar – we’re sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

Our Plans to Fix the Item Upload Progress Bar

What we’d like to share with you today are our immediate plans to fix this issue and give you a heads-up of what you can expect!

Planned Changes

  1. Firstly, we are going to get rid of the item upload progress bar. Don’t panic! ;) The information it provides can no longer be relied upon due to the complexity and mechanisms of the new queue system.

  2. In order to provide a higher level indication of progress, each item will instead have status information next to each item title. For example: “Item TitleState, Status.” A state for an item can either be:

    • New
    • Resubmission
    • Update
    • Disabled Resubmission

  3. A status for an item can be:

  4. Here’s a screenshot of what you can expect to see from your Author Dashboard:

When Will it Change?

Our plan is to release the change within the next couple of weeks. Once released, if you experience any problems or have any questions, please do not hesitate to let us know via a Support Ticket where we’d be glad to investigate and assist you!

Thank you so much again for your patience. We know how the broken Item Upload Progress Bar has caused confusion for many of you and we hope this new update will resolve any further confusion. We’ll swing-by this thread and add a quick update when the feature is live. Happy uploading! :)

Actually, to me the progress bar still worked okay, so it gave you some indication of when to expect your item to be reviewed. A bit sad to see no information at all now (beside “queued”) when you submit an item.

But well, for the majority it didn’t work and so we get rid of the “my progress bar is getting backwards” threads.

Marketplaces are really changing lately, thumbs up for that!

I think the main problem was that bar went up to 80% and stopped or went back… loool that really got me “tickled”

Where’s the good news? The progress bar is gone and now all we get is “Queued for review”.

As for new, resubmission, disabled, update, that’s nothing new, updates were approved faster even before.

For me the progress bar helped quite a bit, at least I had an idea on when it will be approved. Now it just says that it’s under review and that’s all. Nothing useful. It just says the same thing twice(you already know that it’s under review. What I’m interested is: how many themes are before me, how many themes will, estimately, be reviewed before my theme goes in… stuff like that.. not statuses. We all know the themes are under review, if they’re not approved or rejected.

Basically you removed the progress bar and added nothing else in return. Why writing 10 full paragraphs with useless stuff when you could’ve wrote everything in one paragraph? “Hello, we have decided to remove the progress bar and, instead, add the status of the item in the title(new, resubmission, update, disabled resubmission). Also there’s a new status “Special circumstances” for authors that upload lots of files.”

Exactly! Very frustrating and made no sense.

Hi FD! As well as announce what’s changing, we also wanted to apologize and try to explain the full story. By going into a bit more detail we also get to define those terms like “Special Circumstances”. If we didn’t do that, someone is likely to ask about it. Why not give you all the info we can to help everyone understand the finer details so there are no surprises when the changes take effect?

If anyone is short on time hopefully the first 5 sentences of the announcement give a good overview. I like your summary though, you’ve totally nailed it, thanks! :)
