hey guys. gotta quick question, I just got an HD .mov file but it is 35mb (ouch!) I want to convert it to an mp4 or flv and get it down to like 2-3mb (with the best conversion quality)

Using a freebie coverter I got off cnet downloads right now. But the quality sucks when I convert it.

Any ideas? without dropping a grand on after effects.

Thanks dude!! Works perfectly, I downloaded a hundred different ones with no luck but this does a nice job. Did you get those files I sent you the other day?

I guess you found what you need.

I typically use Any video Converter – http://www.any-video-converter.com/ – it does the job for me.

Yup I was using this for a while, but it does a horrible job converting HD mov files to flv. I paid $26 bucks for the one mafloral suggested and it does a WAY better job.

....I will have to check these out.

Hey also does anyone know what software youtube is using. You can upload GIGANTIC video files and it automatically converts them down to acceptable web sizes. I would love to integrate a software that works like this on a webserver for one of my clients.

most php based solutions use ffmpeg for this coz it’s fast, command line and available for both linux and windows.
for example, here’s the script i use for converting the videos used in my previews:
bitrate="1500k -g 5"
opt="-s 512x288 "

ffmpeg -y -i "$1" $opt -pass 1 -vcodec libx264 -vpre fastfirstpass -b $bitrate -bt $bitrate -f mp4 -an /dev/null
ffmpeg -y -i "$1" $opt -pass 2 -acodec libfaac -vcodec libx264 -vpre hq -b $bitrate -bt $bitrate -f mp4 "$2"
MP4Box -inter 500 "$2"
any format to -> 512×288 x264/aac mp4
