Free version of theme in WordPress theme directory?

Was read the codec and knowing WordPress have some code standards of their themes. And all guys can submit their themes at WordPress’ theme directory, but with long trac/theme-review process to ensure themes meet their standards. And some of Themeforest’s themes I saw, those didn’t meet the WordPress standards. I’m really confused about this stuff.

And, how if I submit my theme to the directory and I sell the premium here? Is it allowed?

Why would anyone buy the theme here if you offer it for free in wp directory?

I think you can if you sell “non exclusively” on themeforest.
