Hi guys and gals,

I’m slowly starting up as a freelancer doing 3D, graphic and web design.

I was just wondering what you guys charge per hour and on a simple PSD design of a home page.

I just want to make sure I’m not quoting myself short. My current hourly rate is £20 is this too high or too low? As soon as I mention my hourly rate people want to work with me!

Are their any comparison tables out there that I can get an idea from for different design projects and freelance hourly rates?

Any help would be awesome!

We normally charge 55 euros per hour. But it totally depends on your skills, experience and efficiency ;)

If you are a beginner that’s fine. Depending on how much you can do in an hour. If you are twice as experienced and can do twice as much in one hour then double the price. But you gotta prove the reason why your rate is high with references else they won’t believe you and choose someone who does it for half the price and twice the amount of time.

I prefer value based compensation. You can calculate the project’s price by the hours you need for it to develop but only tell the end price to the client. If something takes more time because it’s a new problem and you have to use google to solve it the extra hours won’t be paid by the client this way. Only the end result, the core value.

haha $800 an hour??

My boss is always singing my praises because I’m a fast worker but turn out awesome work at the same time. As I’m only part time at the moment and it’s a second source of income I’ll stick with what I’m charging to build up my portfolio. I’ll have to increase it if and when I stop working full time.

Quite possible he’s always praising you because you’re the cheapest best he could find? I work part time too

I work full time in a design studio and part time as a freelancer. He says my design skills and turnaround time are way above any designer they have had before! :smug:

So they couldn’t afford someone who charges the right rates?
