I don’t really understand how we’ve got to this thread since a lot of items (some being disliked by me, maybe by others too) receive positive comments. Items here have more comments from non-buyers than from buyers. Have you noticed how all the comments from non-buyers are positive? There’s basically no critique. Today I commented a shelf item, noticing its perspective distortion and a few totally misplaced shadows that gave an odd look. Nobody else seemed to had noticed that, and all seemed amazed by this item.

Have you noticed that it’s often the same commenters on every file? It’s mostly about getting a little bit of self promotion. That said I don’t think it’s appropriate to review/critique any file that has got past the reviewers.

Even if the file is simply weak? Reviewers are still human.

I won’t point out a very poor template (at themeforest) that somehow has been approved in the past few weeks. His acceptance was almost a slap in the face to all those ppl whose files were rejected for minor factors.

Yes, because this is a professional marketplace, not deviantart. No one is asking for a critique from anyone other than the reviewers.

Authors “reviewing” other authors files can never be useful, because behind even the best motivations there is the simple fact that we are all competitors. It’s also just plain rude to jeopardise someone else sales with a subjective opinion.

Agreed. It should only ever be the reviewers job to critique a file.

It is nice that we have a strong community of authors who are happy to say when they really appreciate the skill or creativity in someone else’s file. Yes, there are obviously people who do it to far too many files and clearly might as well put ‘ LOOK AT ME !!1’ as their comment – but it’s not a serious issue and not really related to the point of this discussion.

The question is: Should we raise the standards.

It seems obvious that the overwhelming answer has been a resounding ‘Yes!

The fall out from this is what do we do with all the current files that fall below this standard? And I guess there is debate there and we could suggest new features or ways of handling them, but even that – is a secondary concern. It would require time from the development team and might not be seen as a priority etc.

However, raising the standards is something that Amanda and the team could be doing from next week. It’s not complicated. They just announce it and carry it through. We can worry about all the files with 0 sales later. For now, lets just stop adding more of them!

I absolutely agree , but I’d like to express my negative opinion if I don’t like an item here. And that opinion could be directed to team, with an automated system, and hidden.

Actually I can only say positive opinion and I like to do it when sth for me deserve it.

If a bad file is in the markeplace is a damage also for everyone and not only for the author because it effects the overall quality of the market

It’s a unique marketplace here: it’s like we work for an agency called “Graphicriver” and so I’m not happy if in the Portfolio of my agency there are files that I don’t like. Everything must be AWESOME and not “nice” or buyers won’t come here to buy something they can have better and free.

We work all together more than we think and between us there’s just a great competition as you have between collegues.

I accept to have some of my stuff removed if it damage the overall quality of the website.

What do you think? Am I right? Wrong? What do you suggest to make this a better place for everyone? (please don’t call out single items etc. :-) )

Hello Bebel

I totally agree with you!!! I think GR should do something, something like create another market place for low quality files or Clip Arts!!! Maybe 60% of Graphic River files are Cliparts…

And i think they should implement an file upload limit per user/week, because sometimes one single user has loads of files on “More Recent Items”, which is unfair. In the other day it happens with me…. i work hard to create my latest item, and i just have it on Recent Items for less than one day, because someone uploaded loads of files …

I totally agree with Bebel. Sad to say this, but the market is already completely overfilled by dozens of poor quality items (not offending anyone).

I agree too!
