Get rid of "Remove frame" option to prevent ease of stealing code?

Nobody wants their theme code ripped for free. Could you not just stick the live-preview frame at the top of the page without giving people the option of removing it with one click and then stealing everything? The frame hardly gets in the way of the preview, does it? And the raw theme code could be protected pretty easily with some Javascript. I can bet a lot more users would feel confident about submitting work and more money is made at both ends. Everybody wins.

In Google Chrome, having the frame doen’t make a hell a lot of difference it terms of viewing the source. if you just right click in the page and then view frame source, it will bring up the source of the actual theme rather than the live preview page source like IE. and if someone is here to steal a theme, he would be a developer anyway and he would know how to get theme with/without the live preview frame. ain’t that ture?

Not if the theme source was protected with javascript.

How about opening a live-preview in a new window with no toolbars and right-click disabled? That wouldn’t be difficult at all.

The frame hardly gets in the way of the preview, does it?

Actually it does for some themes

No toolbars and right click disabled

  1. I’m sorry but just saying… doing that is really annoying. I mean really, disabling right click is one of the fastest ways to get me out of a site.
  2. It does not actually deter any serious stealers. Javascript encrypted code can be read with firebug.
  3. Some buyers actually want to check the code, to see if it’s semantic and easy to edit.
I’m a author myself and I’m all for protecting my stuff, but just not via this method.

Right click can be disabled but are some ways to actually get the source without right-clicking …so something else is needed.

It doesn’t matter what you do, if someone wants to steal your code, they will.
