Getting Started with WP, how exactly?

I am designing a theme for my new blog, and I have never made a wordpress theme before. So I am going to be learning as I go along. I plan on making a video series about my process. I’ll be sure to let you know when the first video is up.

ok, beginning to grasp the idea… but stil have some questions:

1. I have a home.php page, then what does index.php do?????

2. What is a custom admin panel?

3. Looks like WP syntax is different from PHP …

any advanced free WP theme out there? want to have a look!
