I’m just looking for some feedback on this theme. I received my 2nd rejection tonight after a redesign. The reviewer stated that the theme doesn’t meet minimum quality requirements for the category it was submitted to and that I should look at other themes in the category. Thanks for any advice.

Thanks. I knew about those 3. Though, I don’t think thats the reason for rejection seeing that all of the accepted Ghost themes have at least these errors, with some having as many as 20 errors.

Hey there, in terms of validation there is one validation issue in the core ghost files that I found and that was on the role=”pagination”

The X-UA-Compatible… one you can get rid of by firing for only less than IE9…

<!--[if lt IE 9]> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge,chrome=1"> <![endif]-->

The other error you have is due to the iframe which is third party so that is fine as far as I am aware.

Having said all of that, I think its probably the design that is causing you issues with the review team.

Here is what I’d do to tidy things a little…

  1. Remove today’s date from the top left, I don’t think its relevant as its not a news site and people usually know the date.
  2. Reduce the size of the social icons in the header, they are rather large
  3. Increase the padding in post white areas, the image padding is ok, but the text needs more breathing room
  4. Increase padding on the button for Read more, it needs a little more on the top and bottom and another 25px on left/right
  5. Give read more a rollover background colour
  6. Change the font colour for the main text so its a little lighter than the title
  7. The grey bottom I think is distracting from the content, this is secondary information I’d be inclined to reduce icon size, drop it back to white background and make the icons + text the same grey as the background was.
  8. On the post page, same as above + move the author box out and keep it white, so it sits below the main content and below the page shares
  9. Share icons could also do with a bit of jazzing up
  10. I’d probably drop the font size in the footer down a little and reduce the social icons by at least 50%

I hope that helps :)

This is not a good solution at all.

Chrome ignores meta enclosed in IE comments.

And IE will ignore this X-UA-Compatible because it must appear in the Web page’s header (the HEAD section) before ALL OTHER elements, except for the title element and other meta elements.

Best solution is to set this as Http header somewhere in server settings such as .htaccess.

Unfortunately Ghost doesn’t support them yet.

This solution is ok only if you want to silence validator.

Yes neutrico is right, of course you could just leave it without the conditionals as it is as I don’t think validation is the cause of the rejection.

Thanks neutrico for pointing this out!

Hi just got mine soft rejected says it lack documentation. Now I’ve added a documentation and updated my theme but somehow the upload progress bar doesn’t seem to move. Any idea on what’s happening? This is my first time to create a theme for Envato.

I think the review team have a lot of submissions to go through at the moment, I’ve had a WordPress theme update in the update queue for 3 days this week, usually its less than 24 hours.

It does say allow up to 5 days though when you upload it to cover them for the busy periods.
