Going Rate for Custom WP Theme

What’s the going rate for a custom wordpress theme and do you relinquish all rights?

That’s a very strange question, what’s the standard pay for non-standard work? It all varies, depending on your time and the work that is involved.

$1,000 to $100,000, roughly.

Just wanted to know the cost difference between a generic template for resale vs a custom template for an exclusive client. Yes the features may vary and affect the cost but I’m assuming the per hour rate or average cost will change.

Also wanted to know if the designer/developer would relinquish all right to the client for a custom template, created exclusively for that client.

In most cases, as soon as the final payment is made, your client should be given the copyright for the design of the site.

This should be written in the contract for the project.

Rough estimates, as above from around $1200 for a very basic theme, and upto $10k for custom option panels and custom features.
