Huh? Nobody was freaking out. This is just the CEO of Google reinforcing what we’ve been saying here all along. If anything, this just means all of the Job-bots can stop parroting his recent “death to Flash” mantra, for now at least.

Did you see my post in the other thread? The one you wrote in yesterday. Btw that’s not the CEO of google who said that, it was Forrester.

Oh, ya I saw it. I don’t want you to think that I’m angry about this though, I’m just trying to add to the discussion. It’s not like I was in the process of building iPhone apps or anything and now all my dreams are crushed. :)

No I’m cool with that :) But what I meant was that if you are right about them trying to stay small…then 90% of the other responses on this forum are wrong. For one, they aren’t losing in that case. If they want to be elitist and they do it, then they are not losing. That’s like saying that Lamborghini is losing because not everyone drives around in Lambo’s.

Two, you can’t really call them greedy if they want to stay small.

Three, why people are saying “screw apple” becomes even weirder because if you understand that they are trying to be elite then it’s understandable that they lock everything down. Just like most brands do that when they want to be the fringe of a market. You can either accept that and go with the elitist market by adopting to their standards, or go with the other mobile operating systems.

Judging by the sentiments shared on the AD boards, you are either seeing something that most members here don’t see. Or most members disagree with you that they want to stay the fringe of the market.

So in the end, you might be right, I was right because if you are right then that comment is even more wrong and the rest…well…50/50.

Whatever may be the case, I see nothing wrong in the forums on mixed reactions about Apple. Secondly by going through the advertising culture of Apple, personally I see they themselves responsible for misleading (or conveying) Apple’s product as something prepared to meet EVERYONE . That definitely adds some unavoidable responsibilities.

This whole thing started over that comment that was copied from another website which claimed that apple was going to “lose” and then remarks about them being greedy. I said that comment made no sense, then Michael said that I was wrong because of certain reasons, however if Michael’s reasons are right then I am even more right than I was initially. So in terms of winning, Michael and I both win and the commenter loses.

This is getting confusing isn’t it?

And I don’t see anything wrong in their advertising. Eventually the defining feature of your intended market is the pricing of your items. Apple isn’t one of those luxury brands that put swarovski crystals all over their crappy items and then sell them for 8k, those brands exist. But they are above average expensive.

What I have against the argument that only fashionable folks buy macs is that I see MIT comp sciences and Harvard comp sciences professors using macbook pro’s. That’s an example of someone who is NOT trying to be fashionable.

Exactly Arik. What I meant by Apple “losing” is that there will soon be more Android mobile devices than Apple out there. But Apple still “wins” in the long run also because they will maintain the corporate identity that they have always had – a unique, closed system that they completely control and maintain. There will be millions of people who will still pay more for Apple because it’s Apple, even when cheaper devices are available.
