It does not make any sense. You do not provide only 1 google font, you provide the font-family, which means if the user is offline, and the google font is not available, it will render the next font which is closely related, and that’s the idea of the font-family.

I know
The downside of this is that i’m not sure which font to tag as “heading” and which to tag as “body” in the theme options
But i’ll sort it out in the end

Correct me if i’m wrong here, but i am 99% sure that we are not allowed to include fonts in our packages.
Yes it’s true… My items were rejected in the past because I had included fonts in the package.

Still agree that rejection reasons changes should be notified somewhere before rejecting items!

Thanks… I didn’t know about that.
I hope this is just a confusion because if it is true that we can no longer call Google fonts from library, thann that sucks.
It’s not just about font, it’s about speed too, once someone caches the font on another website, on all the other websites that have that font loading from Google, fonts will be loaded immediately.

Guys please relax,
First of all we’re going to announce the changes soon but the Team is currently working as fast as they can to make this happen as soon as possible via a Notes post.
Okay so let’s clarify this a little bit:
You can use the Google Fonts Directory to load the fonts in your theme but if the links cannot be loaded for whatever reason it should fall back to another regular font. Themes should degrade gracefully when they’re offline.
@subwaydriver feel free to resubmit.

Cool, so as long as we’re using a reasonable font stack that falls back to system fonts, we should be good? That seems reasonable

Yup
Some authors use hard coded links and the Admin Panel takes 6/7secs to load, which — as you may know — it’s unacceptable.
