Well it’s going to be about the 5th PC I’ve put together so I shouldn’t have any issues working out what parts will need to go together, I’ve also found a great community of people who post what they build and what they did to get it work. And the only issue is the motherboard, all other parts are changeable. So as long as I get the right motherboard I’ll be flying!

On the note of it will never be as good, I completely get that for laptops not so much for desktop I don’t so much. For half the price I get 6 cores instead of 4, 32gb Ram instead of 8, 2gb graphics card instead of built in etc etc.

I get that drivers can be an issue but there is a ton of stuff online to work out where to get the drivers. I’ve also read a few places that reinstalling can sort out a hell of a lot of issues.

I’d really really like to buy a nice 27” imac but as I’ve never sat down with a mac and a windows do everything I want I can’t justify it. With this I get the best of both worlds!

Just be careful though mate, think in terms of an emulator you install on a PC, in theory you’re just running, let’s say, a PS2 through your PC hardware, the thing is, these emulators are usually quite poorly optimised and end up need an order of magnitude more power than the original just to compete.

I think what was being said was that even though your specs are going to be through the roof (jealous here!) just be sure that the modified OSX you’ll be using is actually going to make proper use of that, though I guess if you’re dual booting with windows then you can make true use of that power elsewhere!

IMO building uber-hackintosh among other benefits is also a great hobby-project. If you have time and inspiration – go for it. :)

It won’t be emulated it’ll be actual OSX so it should work as intended. The difficulty is having the right motherboard as that’s the only thing that would be an issue.

Cheers Dream-Theme :) I’ve always enjoyed making computers so this is a step up, a giant one!

I’m not sure if anyone cares that much but I’d be more than happy to show the progress of the hackintosh

Quick edit, yeah it’ll be dual boot however I’m hoping it’ll open my eyes to OSX I use windows a lot but it’s only for web design now so gaming has become less of a factor

I meant a ‘hackintosh’ has to work on modified software which may break a lot of optimisation compared to the real thing, not that it was actually emulated, although reading my comment back I didn’t really make that clear :D

Really? Wow, it’s come a long way from when I made one then, I made one in 2008 and OSX was hacked to hell to get everything working. Well that’s good news then :)

Yep, you have to use a special kind of installer as you’re not upgrading a mac. Put installer on USB and then insert the install disk and installs mac osx

I’ll be installing Snow Leopard then upgrading to maverick :)
