Hi there. Time to change my working laptop. Here is options.
HP envy Dell Inspiron
No matter of choice will install 16GB of memory and linux OP (dual boot).
Basic needs: Coding (text editor), mutiple predprocessors, mutiple compilers, web servers, photoshop.
I prefer these two brands (Dell and HP). If you have alternative suggestions please advice. Thank you.

Go with the HP – It’s got the Quad core i7 whereas the Dell as the Dual core i5. The HP as a TB hd – the dell has half that.

The only thing Dell has over the HP is a cd/dvd drive – if that matters to you.

HP Customer service sucks, but dell sucks even more!!

I have an Hp pavilion elite HPE, my coworker has Hp laptop (old model). Both are happy.

Basic needs: Coding (text editor), mutiple predprocessors, mutiple compilers, web servers, photoshop.
I think the Envy covers a lot more, so my 2 cents go to the Hp.

to be honest with you, i never had a chance to use an hp, and reviews so far are not pleasing, but i have an inspiron 15 too with 4Gb of Ram, 2nd Gen I5 processor, and intel 3000, and works perfectly till the moment, no problem what so ever, and i use it far more hardcore than you might do with yours (probably), i game on it and use After effects CC and really keeps up to.

It was no 2 months that i used it, and as i said, so far no problems =) Hope you find the best one that will make you happy, Good luck

I had bad experience with HP and good one with Dell, I think Dell laptops have higher quality and longer durability. So if I have to make a choice between Hp and Dell I will take a Dell even with lower specs.

From my experience HP is not good, ASUS is excellent though (they make great motherboards).

I have owned both Dell and HP laptops. HP laptops are very nicely designed recently, that’s a good +1 in my opinion. About the system specs I don’t have much comparison, you get what you paid for. But one important thing which really matters me is the local customer service. In your local area if you have better HP or Dell service / community then it’s a good +1.
