Load it up as soon as possible ;D (My motto). If the helpfile isn’t as good as required you can re-upload your item.
On my last theme (still awaiting approval) I just added all the help docs to the site itself instead of dummy content. I started adding dummy content then I thought “why don’t I take the time and actually post useful information?”
Once the theme is approved I’ll drop back in here and show you guys what I did.
If making help files will take longer than coding the template, things are not looking up at all. What help could a css template have short of teaching the buyer how to use photoshop and code css ? I believe TF should have some general tutorials for buyers, keep things centralised, as oposed to having all the authors spend tons of time on this.
I might be a big harsh since I was waiting for quite a few days to get the #1 template approved and it just got rejected because of the help file I guess I might have to put things on hold untill some TF approved help templates become available.
A help file does not need to teach the buyer the ins and outs of CSS , HTML, and Photoshop…it just needs to give an overview of how to modify the site…this basic guideline in conjunction with code commenting would make things much easier for the buyer.
For example…you comment your CSS for each styling: “Main Text Color” then in your help file just mention: “To change the color for your main text, find “Main Text Color” in the css file and change the hex code.”
Explain where various aspects of the project can be found in the code and CSS and how it can be modified…basic stuff like banner image, where in the html is to change the main links…
hope that helps.
I’m afraid this still doesn’t help because there are so many styles and things you can customise in a template it can make things impossible. I have asked you to send me a sample help file, I still have not received an answer.
If you can only say general things about what a help file should include, how can you judge if it cuts the mustard or not ? We need proper instructions on exactly what is required in these help files.
..i really dont get why people struggle to make a help file…
anyways, kudos to you guys for making a template for it
@enhancedmedia I don’t either but it’s a requirement so nothing we can do about it. Onsite tutorials for buyers would be a much better idea.
