Testing purposes for us designers, but for everyone else its used to..well browse the internet.

Your average joe* doesnt know or at least care of how it renders the layout…and average joe* is the majority.

*average joe meaning not a web designer ;)

Which is why we should make them aware of the evils of Internet Explorer. It’s just that it’s so easy to simply leave the browser you already have on your pc and use that. It has no obvious annoyances to the user.. it has them, but they’re not obvious or big enough to take the effort to switch. Anyone installing a computer for a friend / relative, please install FireFox, perhaps even change it’s icon to that of IE so they’ll click it! :D

@ Joost.

Hold your horses, depending on the machine you may not want to install FF. FF is a great browser, but it guzzles resources. I put Chrome on my dad’s PC and it really works a lot faster now.

FF Doesn’t start up as a memory hog, the memory it uses grows overtime. While it shouldn’t be doing it, and Mozilla def needs to address the issue, if you kill the process and re-open FF every few hours or so, you wont see speed issues.

Explain that to a 50 year old stubborn guy who won’t make the effort anyway. The browser is just on. Still I saw a difference in load when I installed chrome.
