Help!

Spent literally hundreds of dollars and dozens of hours on Wordpress themes that aren’t working. Some have bugs that support teams haven’t be able to fix. Some, after purchasing, I realize don’t have the options needed for the project I’m working on. :crying:

MUST HAVES: 1. Full and quick support when we’re having problems. Waiting a day or two for minor stuff is fine, but when I can’t build a menu, I need urgent help—even on a weekend or Sunday. 2. Fast loading theme. 3. Responsive—truly responsive with navigation on mobile devices. 4. One-page option. 5. Sticky headers – widgetized areas on the header would be nice for announcements of new book releases (the site owner is a fiction author). 6. Control styling choices for each element separately on the front end. That is, H1, H2, H3, body font, sidebar font, etc. can each have a different font, color and size. Need this without coding. 7. Text styling within the post editor. 8. Mailchimp ready and integrated. 9. Parallax, animation and Revolution slider (or a comparable slider). 10. Lockable, password protected areas for mature or premium content. 11. Updates included with purchase.

WISH LIST: 1. When clicked on, items on the one-page open right there within the one-page. After reading the item, visitors can close it and scroll to the next item on the one-page. We want to avoid visitors leaving the home page, and especially having to use a browser back button. 2. The fiction author posts snippets and chapters of her work. Therefore an array of quote options would be super nice. 3. Also need side tabs to break books into chapters. 4. Timeline layout option for the blog. 5. The author’s “team members” are characters in her novels. Therefore, those boxes must be clickable to open for more information. Social media links for characters aren’t necessary. The option to link to other characters would be awesome. 6. Wattpad and Goodreads social icons would be fantastic. I’ve yet to see a developer include them in a theme’s social media options.

Whew. It’s a big list, isn’t it? Plugins that work well with the theme are acceptable to achieve the functions listed above.

Am I dreaming that such a theme exists?

No, your dreams are in a totally different direction – attitude and expectations.

No offense – just making things clear!

when I can’t build a menu is NOT an urgent support ticket! All themes are tested before approved for sale and if it’s not possible to build a menu, the problem most probably exists between chair and keyboard (the famous TPEBCAK case).

2. “even on a weekend or Sunday” – I guess this would really surprise you, but we are humans and also have families. Sounds like would be better if you migrate to Probablystan and buy a slave.

Does your client expect you to be available 24/7?? I highly doubt so. If so – fire the client – just a friendly advice.

Everything else is achievable. Anyways, if you expect/demand to have it all built-in within a 45 USD theme – you’re on the wrong planet. Those are pretty specific requirements and most probably you would need to hire someone to make some customizations/adaptations for you.

Once again – I hope you don’t get me wrong. No offense meant! Just discussing the matter. :)

yep, you are dreaming:)

you should rather hire a dev who either build such theme from scratch or customize an existing one for you

Totally agree with the above especially with support, if you are expecting 24/7 support including weekends then you need to do pay for it as most authors here are one man bands and will take weekends off to do more important stuff than work e.g. spend time with their family.

With what you want, it’s possible to get it all but unlikely, most authors will implement some into their themes but not all.

You have 2 choices here:

1) Pay someone to make the amendments to the theme for you, you get what you need for a few hundred dollars.

2) Nail your exact needs down 100% and get a custom theme made, it will do 100% of what you / the client wants … This will cost you in the region of $2k-$20,000 depending on your requirements

You’re paying $30-$55 for a WPt theme, this will get you upto an hour of a decent developers time, the WP themes on this site are bargains and my clients say they would pay more because they are of such a high quality compared to other theme sites.

You big, bad techie guys have NO IDEA how frustrating it is for non-techie people. :) I think I’m developing ulcers. Definitely getting bald spots from pulling my hair out. LOL>

Perhaps you guys can help with the biggest problem with the current theme.

The support team really is wonderful. They’ve been trying to fix it to no avail. They have a log in to the site I’m working on. They are seeing something totally different in the dashboard than I am – specifically in the options to build a menu. How is that possible?

I’ve cleared my cache. Logged on with different computers – Apple and PC. Deleted the template and all it’s plugins and started over. STILL having menu issues.

All that said, what would it cost - ballpark - to have such a theme created?

Ballpark would be between $2k and $20k depending on the exact features needed and who is doing it e.g. someone in India will be cheaper than someone in America

The menu could be down to different browsers or them misunderstanding what you mean (they could be looking at the wrong area etc)

You install themes for your clients and change settings and you want to have all settings that you need there without writing a single line of code? So what exactly you do for your clients? You buy a theme for 50$ and sell the website for min 1000$... But you still can’t add those features youself, because all you want to do is to change a few settings.

You must think again and understand what are Themeforest themes… Think that TF themes are frameworks, ready to use frameworks that are able to do something, offer a hight quality design, typography and elements. Now you must install a theme(a framework), and adjust the built-in settings, if you need more you must add them yourself. Create a child theme, edit theme settings and add your own setings. That how I do everytime I buy a theme from here and use it for a client. Even if I am an author here, I’m also a buyer and I know exactly what I do. If I have a client, I install the theme for him, but I don’t stop only on what this theme can do, I create a child theme and modify it OR I create a plugin and the functionallity I need.

So, stop dreaming, and start working. If you do custom work for clients, use themes as a base for what you do, never think about them like a full solution.

All the best.

Hi, Try one of the top selling themes like Avada. They have loads of options and great dedicated support.

For the menu problem, try clicking on ‘screen options’ on the top of the screen, this could be the reason they are “seeing something totally different in the dashboard than I am”.

Oh, and Ignore all the abuse from authors on here. Its a free world and you are entitled to try your luck and request whatever features you want from a theme. If they think $50 is too cheap then they can choose not to be an author on here. The fact is you are able to buy big good themes with fantastic 24/7 support on here at that price you just need to avoid the small timers.

Oh my god. I love you! That was IT! Can I pay you? Donate to your favorite charity?

For the record, it is Avada that I’m working with. I loved it … and now love it again.
