left:-9999 px–how do you want it to be visible if it is located 9999 px outside of the screen?

Also, z-index 120–why so high? What is the reason?

Another thing: your child (subnav) is positioned absolutely but parent is not positioned relatively, so even if you will change “left” to 0 or whatever else, the submenu will not be positioned properly (relatively its parent ul.nav).
