Hello everyone!

I just purchase the Kassyopea full ecommerce-corporate theme. It downloads as a zip and contains several folders and zip files within that.

To upload a them to my Wordpress site, it asks for a zip file. When I attempt to upload this file, I receive an internal server error. I’m thinking this is because of the sub-zip files contained within the main zip.

Would someone please tell me which files Wordpress needs for the upload and if a separate (new) zip fiile should be created and uploaded?

Thank you so much for your guidance!

Zip the folder that’s ONLY the theme and then upload it to WordPress. You can also take a look at this screencast:

Jami,

Thanks. I don’t know if you work for ThemeForest or the designer of this theme, but the zip file I created for Kassyopea (Kassyopea 1.6.zip) which contains the style.css file along with several folders and hundreds of other files, would not upload to Wordpress. I received an error message and am still stuck.

Any assistance you can provide is appreciated.

Regards,

Glenn Mantel

Hi Glenn,

Usually the way authors package their themes is that once you unzip the file you downloaded, one of the ZIP files you see then is the theme itself, which you can upload to WordPress through the Install Themes -> Upload screen.

The exact name of the ZIP file you should use varies from theme to theme, so without seeing what files you have available to you within the main ZIP file you downloaded, I can’t be more specific than that.

One way to check though, is to unzip it first, and if it contains a folder with a style.css file in it, there’s a good chance that’s the one!

Good luck!

Japh

Thank you both for your responses. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to work.

As it turns out, for whatever reason, my web host seems to be the problem. I use iPage (www.iPage.com) Try as I might, I was unable to upload the theme via any method, directly to Wordpress. Nothing worked, Admin, cPanel, FTP , you name it.

FINALLY , I used FTP to upload the file from my hard drive directly to my web host (into my File Manager.) Once the theme was uploaded to my host file manager, I was able to activate the theme in Wordpress!

Please help spread the word that if one is having problems uploading third-party themes to Wordpress, it may be that they need to upload it to their web host instead and then simply activate the theme on Wordpress.

Which directory are you uploading the theme to in your file manager?

If you’re uploading the correct file to the correct place, you should see the theme in your WordPress admin under Appearance -> Themes

Be careful to follow the instructions in the link @JamiGibbs posted above.
