At my age, saying you’re Self Employed, especially to a girl in a bar, makes you look like the biggest idiot ever, so I either say I’m a Graphic designer or ‘run websites’.
Wait, you are not a girl?
Since creating themes ist not the only thing I do, I just say I’m a web-developer.
If I have to explain the theme business, I use the app-store analogy.
Apparently so do some of the Envato staff members, as I learned in the latest podcast
self employed web developer.
just got the birth certificate for our new baby boy in the mail, it shows:
Mother: Occupation: Self Employed Website Designer
Father: Occupation: Self Employed Website Developer
I like to think of myself as retired, but when you say that it can rub people the wrong way lol
+1 for explaining themes and php scripts like the apple app store
It’s so funny most of the people think we’re broke when we say we’re self-employed or when we say we work at home.
Many different answers so far!
I’ll like the app store analogy too and used it already in the past. This is the easiest way to explain my business
Thanks again @all
See if you’re not a girl? It would be so much easier! I just say “my husband supports me” or “I am a housewife” – most of my family thinks that anyway, so why bother with complicated notion like “I make my own bucks by working at home when and how I feel like it” Stay away from “I work from home on the internet” – I tried that and people understood that I sit around the house all day clicking adds for $5 :))
“Unemployed bum” or “Animation thingys” depending on the person.
