At my age, saying you’re Self Employed, especially to a girl in a bar, makes you look like the biggest idiot ever, so I either say I’m a Graphic designer or ‘run websites’. :)

Wait, you are not a girl? :silly:

Since creating themes ist not the only thing I do, I just say I’m a web-developer.

If I have to explain the theme business, I use the app-store analogy.

Apparently so do some of the Envato staff members, as I learned in the latest podcast ;-)

self employed web developer.

just got the birth certificate for our new baby boy in the mail, it shows:

Mother: Occupation: Self Employed Website Designer
Father: Occupation: Self Employed Website Developer

I like to think of myself as retired, but when you say that it can rub people the wrong way lol

+1 for explaining themes and php scripts like the apple app store

It’s so funny most of the people think we’re broke when we say we’re self-employed or when we say we work at home. :-)

Many different answers so far!

I’ll like the app store analogy too and used it already in the past. This is the easiest way to explain my business

Thanks again @all

See if you’re not a girl? It would be so much easier! I just say “my husband supports me” or “I am a housewife” – most of my family thinks that anyway, so why bother with complicated notion like “I make my own bucks by working at home when and how I feel like it” :D Stay away from “I work from home on the internet” – I tried that and people understood that I sit around the house all day clicking adds for $5 :))

We’re entrepreneurs.

I think that’s the best definition… You make money selling stuff over the Internet, you get income, you pay the income taxes, so that makes you entrepreneurs… isin’t that right? :)
