Take a break! In this industry it’s so easy to go through long periods of what seems like never-ending work. But we all need a break every now and then, and it’s often the perfect prescription.

And when you come back from vacation, listen to this song and turn the volume up as high as possible:

I know your feelings. There are days you think about what you’ve done and you just don’t feel it’s good enough to reach your goals. We all have been through this.

Sometimes I just skip work and do something else to chill out my little, overloaded brain. That is the time when I get inspired and when I find again the good flow I’ll return to the drawing table and try again, again and again until I’m happy with what I’ve done. You must be motivated and love what you do. If you don’t, then change your job or you’ll regret it for your entire life.

My 2c…

There is a problem with the idea of success. As a society, we are very goal orientated and through the media, we get exposure to a mass of success stories. All the quotes about success are from the tiny minority of people who happen to have become the president of the US, the prime minister of Great Britain or a major sports personality (check the quotes on this thread). Here on Envato, we gain much more exposure to the tiny minority of highly successful authors than those who never sell much (although they are legion).

That’s not to say you shouldn’t try it. True positivity is taking risks and working hard at something, knowing that it’s a risk and acknowledging that it might fail. To continue the analogy of the diamond cartoon: if you convince yourself that the diamonds are beyond the next axe stroke, then every axe stroke will be a disappointment and unless you get lucky, you’ll drive yourself mad.

The point of this is not to be negative, but to focus on the idea that the more important thing is personal development…more important than some skewed and ethereal idea of success.

From my experience, by far the most likely outcome is a partial success. Success itself may even turn out to be a less rosy place than you imagined. And here, the fine art is knowing if and when to quit and having the courage to do so.

Steve Jobs – Connecting the dots – The best!

It’s becoming a bit of a cliche, but he truly said it best. Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish. As long as you manage to do that and are able to do what you like to do, quiting doesn’t even come to mind.
