How do you get Freelance Jobs?

Recently, I have had about 1 request for a freelance job, but after that my jobs are pretty much gone. I really enjoy doing extra freelance on the side, and would love to take on more jobs. The problem is finding work! How do you manage to find customers and also how do you keep customers for return jobs?

Any tips or tricks would be awesome, thanks!

I go to meetups in my area and give out my business card as much as i can. At first it can be a bit slow but after doing it consistently for several weeks freelance gigs start to flow in. Good Luck

There’s a lot of services for freelancers. I’m using one and I’m pretty happy. Not so big problem to find a job. One you need to learn is to write good proposals. You can find some tips about it in internet.

But most powerful way that makes me much better in writing proposals and talking with customers was reading a book How to Win Friends and Influence People written by Dale Carnegie. This book changed a lot in my life.

Try to promote your work on networks like Behance, Dribbble, Deviantart, and also try with 99design, freelancer, etc.

do websites like 99design, freelancer, elance are a good ways to promote ourself for freelance projects?? because in my opionion is a waste of time fighting to lower as much as possible the price for doing something professional… i would like to hear other opinion from people that are happy with these websites

I have done absolutely no physical self promotion where I live. Most of my clients come from referrals (Miami, Orlando, California, Georgia, etc.).

I get a lot of leads from Graphic River, Flickr, Twitter, Youtube, Vimeo and my own website.

Mike, as you can see, there’s a lot of different ways to promote, and get freelance jobs. One way definitely doesn’t work for everyone. I don’t promote where I live because people here (most of the time) can’t afford or don’t want to pay the prices; so, I stopped all together and started reaching out to friends in other cities or economic zones that could afford my work. So my point being, your geographical area definitely plays an important part in what your strategy will be.
