What sort of things should i take note/do when submiting indesign files to gr? i would usually set up character styles but is there anything else that should be done to the indesign files to make them more “customer friendly” and easier to edit?

I am sorry that I can’t help you out, but I am looking into getting in to indesign materials and wonder the same question so if anyone can help both of us out that would be great.

I always use paragraph, character and object styles, I also embed Grep in my paragraph styles depending on what formatting I need. Make full use of grids, guides and baselines as these are invaluable tools when designing templates. Organise the template’s layers in a methodical manner and develop your own folder structure workflow to house all collateral (images, copy, illustrations etc).

Clearly label all styles so the end user will have an indication of what they do and how they apply to the template. A good informative help file is a must especially when using Grep.

I strongly advise using Indesign over Photoshop when designing for print as Photoshops’s text tools and formatting features are no comparison to Indesign’s. Photoshop is predominately used for image editing purposes.

Some people prefer the text ‘not aligned to baseline grid’ as it easier to work for, for others they can be confused as to how it operates as the text can behave differently than normal in the text box.

Don’t copy over artwork from photoshop or illustrator, eg. logos, complex designs, it is easier to link and have amendments made to link files for easier flow.

one of the first things is to use the package option indesign gives you. the most problems i had in past was with not correct saved indesign packages or missing links and files of documents.
