I usually don’t limit nor calculate my efficiency timeframe. I formed the habit to try to get the work done before resting.

+1, max 10 hours

Visual work keeps me pinned down without blinking for 4-6 hours if the project is interesting and rewarding, and breaks are usually shorter than 15 minutes. Using the breaks forcedly, in order to get a refreshed perspective on what I did previously, and repair anything I might not have noticed.

When dealing with text, I take 30 minute breaks every 1-2 hours to silence my brain from pushing endless wording alternatives and then get back to it.

In total, I tend to go for 10-14h / day work, and slow down during the weekend. But I must say, what mrcharlesbrown said applies 100%, so this is all just “estimates”.

I have a cigarette pretty much every hour, but it’s not a long drawn out affair… I hoover it down and then get back to the grind. Can probably go six hours without a proper break. No more than 16 hours in the day or I start flagging.

I usually prefer to work during 3-4 hours and then 1-2 hours break. Second part of work time certainly less productive than previous part. I also prefer eveninings for my photoshop works and morning for music production.

If I do something challenging and interesting, I can work even 10 hours without a break.

But if I do – instead – something boring or imposed by someone else, I need a break every hour :) finding always a reason for a coffee break or a chat break….

When I’m working on an interesting or difficult project, I won’t notice the passage of time and I can spend even 12-13 hours without a real break.

Of course this won’t work when I’m working on a PSD file and my eyes will start blinking after a few hours.

By the way, I usually will take a break once my wife will start to threatening me that she’s getting tired of my working :D
