We do a little, twitter, Dribbble, Facebook, devient art, but prob the most effective is to have a “Buy this item” link in the actual preview on your own server, because then all of the direct google traffic can turn into referral and sale pairs.

In March we did

948 clicks > 24 registered members > 20 deposits

In general over the last 6-8 months we’ve had between 12 and 20 deposits per month, but the best thing is that these referrals usually come with a sale also, and since we are at the 70% mark, that means 100% of that purchase is ours.

Once we start selling WP themes, the value of these referrals will increase because the item prices will be higher, which will be nice :)

December 2011 > 221 Clickthroughs > 3 Registered Members > 3 Deposits
January 2012 > 97 Clickthroughs > 6 Registered Members > 4 Deposits
February 2012 > 161 Clickthroughs > 11 Registered Members > 9 Deposits
March 2012 > 145 Clickthroughs > 10 Registered Members > 8 Deposits
Each month is beating the previous. This is just a minimal effort but I reckon I can do way more to increase the referrals. Just need to get round to doing it as busy with work, etc.

24 deposits from 624 clickthroughs is really impressive. Your links must be on very relevant sources. Where are your clicks coming from?

@Joost, I hear adobe exchange is beginning to slow down a little now for referrals?

@pixelentity, yeah I like to see a referral and a sale appear at the same time, would be pretty great to be getting 100% (and referral tracking to see it happening more clearly :P)

well, in 2 months (I’m an author since the end of January) I’ve collected around 6900 clicks but only 2 registered members and 1 deposit..!

Recently (1 month ago) I’ve upoaded 3 of my items on exchange, but doesn’t seems to help. Very very few clicks from there.

Then I think a little part comes from twitter and the most from the links that I’ve put on codecanyon and on Items preview.

I don’t think there are one or two specific reasons in order to gain the best referrals. Also I don’t think that I’ve done anything ‘special’ to achieve the results that I have.

I’m quite amazed after seeing some of the clickthrough amounts that authors have indicated and with so little registered and deposits achieved. This goes to show that if you set your referral targets right then you will receive quality clickthrough’s, registered members and deposits. I think I have done what many of you guys would have done like posting on blogs, social media, designer social media sites etc.

However, one weird thing I’ve noticed in my referral section is that there seems to be quite a few referrals coming from graphics shared sites!! At least 5 or 6 different sharing sites. Now, one would assume that sharing sites just offer a free link to download the file without paying but I have noticed after visiting a few of the sites that some offer a link straight back to GraphicRiver without a free link, which is bizarre! I mean you can tell when you go onto a sharing site and it all looks really dodgy and the graphics are all chopped up and pasted on and you fear the worst thinking here we go again, some t**t is offering my files for free. But I guess not all sharing sites are offering files for free!
