$9k is about right for a junior for a months work for someone in the uk If I was to get a job in the UK full time I would be looking at $150k+ which is a lot but it’s peanuts over here.

Sorry just to be clear you are suggesting that a junior developer in the UK should be on $9K/£5K a month and other developers on $150K/£91K a year?

Yup, $9k is not a lot in the UK (around £5k), it all depends on what you know (language wise), where you’re based (London pays better than other areas) and who the company hiring is.

There are developers earning $200k+ in the UK as they work on the biggest sites doing the most complex work.

Sorry didn’t realise it was you relying Charlie, but those wages are quite common, I got offered similar around 2 years ago doing html and a little php, but it does depend on who is hiring (Governments like to pay the most).

Aaah the irony, and yet there are people living on a buck a day.

Supply and demand, there are a lack of decent developers in the UK and the high tax and high rates of living (you will easily pay more than $2k a month for a 3 bed house in London) which make the rates of pay quite big hence why a lot of companies started outsourcing to China, India, Indonesia etc but these are starting to come back to the UK as the wages in the rest of the world start to catch up.

Interesting – clearly need to move wherever you are.

I have lived and worked (at quite a senior level) in central London and for a global agency for several years and 60K for a junior developer? That is nearly double what most agencies I know of pay. I appreciate the 90K salaries exist but only in rare director level roles. Most management employees I am aware of range from 40K up to absolute max 70K.

But it depends on what they are doing, I was speaking in general and not just for “web technologies”, I have seen senior PHP jobs being offered for £80k+ but also junior Java and C++ devs fetching £40-£60k

At the end of the day it’s down the employer, I live close to GCHQ and the rates they pay their devs is astronomical, more than most London agencies.
