VF saidHonestly I don’t see how designers/developers can afford to always keep buying these new toys. And you’d think now that development/testing has become a lot more cumbersome we’d be charging more for the work, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

An actually effective device-testing software will be necessary. Set URL of website to be tested, run through all available devices at the time, print a screenshot for each (if it’s about design) or report an error (if it’s about validity/debugging).

We have problems but this is where we need to split the developers. For stock theme developers, testing with all combination becomes a must to meet variety of buyers who prefers different coverage of website visitor devices (in otherwords, all major device/os). But for those who makes custom websites, testing will be limited to site owners budget and expected range of visitor device. Either way, pain is a pain is a pain!

Nobody seemed to read it, so I’ll say this again and spare you from spending money. Opera Mobile Emulator – Look it up…
Cheers

No. But then again nothing really is. Not unless you have the state of the art devices in your hands to check the site through all of them. It’s not half bad if you ask me. Give it a pop. I don’t have an ipad to check the tablets, but I’ve checked the mobile version VS my iphone and it’s the same. Sure, you’ll still feel the need of a tool like firebug, but if it’s your own theme you’re troubleshooting it will certainly be enough.

That’s the problem with emulators. Crozer has the right idea. Do you guys remember SkyFire? The reason it was able to display Flash on non-Flash devices was because all the rendering took place on their servers. This is the type of software we need for testing. Hopefully we’ll have it someday.
