You guys don’t need to get defensive.

The fact remains, there are those that are featured more than once and then there are those that are never featured. And if you submit that this is because of the quality of music, I’ll have to call bs on that. There are many, many talented people on here that have not gotten any attention in feature or even from people in this forum.

So, nope, still biased.

I should hope it is biased. It needs to be more biased and it is not bs that Gareth deserves to be featured more. He is a top seller with one of the strongest orchestral catalogs on AJ. The only site I know of that features tracks with little or no sales is AJ. In my opinion the barrier to entry for a featured track or artist should be much higher – in fact I would argue that AJ tries too hard NOT to feature their top authors. It is unimaginable to me that Tim McMorris and Soundroll are not featured prominently on the front page more often -or permanently – why not create an elite authors section on the home page for authors that have a proven track record.

It has always been odd to me that AJ chooses to feature new uploads on the homepage rather than income generating content.

I have a theory around that, I don’t have envato’s insider info but from what I’ve heard, a lot of authors do their buying within the marketplace… I mean why not? Your money is already here you already set up an account. I personally buy all my graphic design needs from PhotoDune and GraphicRiver. I could go to Getty which has a more established library but loyalty to envato/ ease of purchase makes me buy here instead.

I think envato works hard to attract new authors as they often times become new customers too and a lot of the revenue made here is from trading marketplace to marketplace… like a real marketplace!

Just a theory tho…

There are artists in AJ 3369 , think how hard it is for the manager to “Weekly Features”, everyone wants to be Weekly Features…is impossible. I think it’s the quality of the track mixed with luck. We just have to wait, our time will come. I have not been chosen yet, but understand that it is very difficult for the Envato team. By the way, I’m glad that was not elected a corporate track and has been an orchestra, I’m glad. :)

Some type of process would eliminate the accusations for sure. But a solution such as yours would only increase the “problem” some have of sales being a large determining factor of what items get the most exposure.
I can’t agree with you here..It’s possible for everyone to have a 50-100 sales of a one track for a long period of time (1-2 years)..It’s only shows that track is good and have a customer demand.. For example i have 6 items with more than 100 sales in my portfolio at the moment, but only 1 track have a most exposure, as you said (thanks to “popular files” category)..well sold files should be encouraged, otherwise I do not understand this policy ..
I’d also like to see the featured file feature expanded per category so as to have feature files for each genre represented.

I also want to +1 this one. Good idea.

I think that when someone decides to search a category…they should be taken to a category page that has a heading like the AJ main page with top files in that category and featured files in that category. Kind of like a genre “home” page.

Sorry but this comment makes no sense to me. Tim and Soundroll are already featured on top sellers page. It makes sense to mix up featured authors so that new authors can get exposure and Aj doesnt have to rely on top authors alone. Relying only on top auhors makes AJ vulnerable.

Of course AJ cant promote everyone, so sometimes authors feel snubbed. But that is the way it goes. Personally, i feel AJ does a decent job of featured authors for the way it is set up.

I think the front page could be used more effectively to promote the elite sellers. By the very nature of doing business AJ has to rely on the top authors. I am sure AJ is like any other business and the top 20% of authors generate 80% of the revenue. The top authors don’t make AJ vulnerable, they make AJ more competitive.

If top authors take half their portfolio elsewhere for any reason, Aj would be vulnerable. Obviously having those tracks here makes AJ strong. But it is in AJ best interest to promote new talent.
