Honestly when it comes to piracy I think the best thing you can do is educate the end consumer.

For independent designers every sale counts, and means a lot to the person who created the item. If you let people know this through interaction / thank you’s, it can definitely help prevent people from tossing files up on pirate file sharing services.

That being said, you cannot stop it, there is simply no way to. People will steal things on the internet, but if people are going through that trouble, it means you likely have a cool file on your hands. Consider it a very strange compliment. As others have said you can send a cease and desist, but they’re not terribly effective.

There are also many excellent DMCA services out there that will constantly fight piracy for you – for a cost. Some can be a bit pricey, but when it comes to fighting piracy in certain countries, they can get the job done quickly. It really depends on the item and amount of piracy/sales lost in order to determine if it is worth paying a monthly charge to regain lost sales.

Thank you lou606! I also just signed up with Myows. I uploaded my latest design. I have the OW banner from Myows on my item page. I am not sure if that is allowed or not.
