Find another habit instead of smoking.
Some say that when people quit a habit, they usually get another one :)

“Easy way to stop smoking” Allen Carr Give it a try, it’s a good read!
I’ve read this book 3 times.. still smoke :|

Last year, after 90 pages of that book I quit smoking straight away for 8 months… until the day I decided to smoke “just” one and got into it again :( . I should definitely feel a bit more motivated and give it another deep read, I’m sure it’s gonna work again!...hopefully forever! :)

Well the first thing is that you’ve got to “want” to quit smoking. I quit 12 years ago after smoking for around 20 years. I had half heartedly tried a few times before but it was no good.

The big problem was that I still enjoyed smoking. All that changed in my 30’s though. I started to enjoy smoking less and less…the smell on my clothes, the half finished stubs in the ash ridden astray and then there was the cost. Then a major event happened in my life that helped me to quit for good…my father died prematurely aged 62….not from smoking, but it made me think about my own mortality and made me realize that we’re not invincible. Finally, I imagined a scenario in the near future where my doctor tells me that I have lung cancer and there is no cure. Can you imagine that moment and there’s nothing you can do to turn the clock back? Also, there were just too many smoking related diseases that made quitting smoking the only sensible choice.

So for me, all those factors made me quit. I quit first go, without the help of patches or anything other than chewing gum and mints. 12 years later and I haven’t touched another cigarette..I hate them. At the age of 48, I feel fitter and am in better shape than I was in my mid 30 s when I smoked.

Anyone can quit, you’ve just got to want to quit.

Reddit too, it’s a good read and all.. but i think it needs a certain state of mind to be easily manipulated if you want to quit smoking because you are reading some dude’s experiences and thoughts about smoking… no offence, its a great read! It takes skill to write your thoughts like Allen Carr has done. I definitely recommend it but it hasn’t helped ’’push me over’’ the only thing it did was confirm my long time suspicions on the subject.

I think the most effective way is just to turn off that switch in your mind and just quit smoking and this book can certainly help you with this btw, after that it’s just staying strong and remembering that it never stays with that 1 cigarette. When you quit cold turkey and later think about smoking a single cigarette because you think you are strong enough, just don’t do it; ask yourself at that moment, do i want to become an addict again and make your decision.

Smoking since i was 14… 14 years later still smoking, but damn am i contemplating to quit again lately..

Never smoked myself, but the people around me who have quit have always had 100% from family and close friends. Oh and determination

It’s not, hard just look at the negatives – for me it was easy. It’s only in your mind.
