What do you use to output posts on your home page?

I am just using some other standard WordPress queries that are all working and appearing. Here is an example of one of mine:
  <?php

// The Query

query_posts( 'cat=4&posts_per_page=3' );

// The Loop

while ( have_posts() ) : the_post();

?>

I can create a page template to test this code on and just changed the is_home and is_front_page call to is_user_logged_in.
