I actually think this looks more than bad. I can’t believe that bunch of designers and developers from envato with several years of experience in webdesign came up with something like this. Looks more like a poor first attempt of a designer who never heard the term whitespace.

@davidbo90 That would be exactly what we have now on TF :/

PS. I can bet every single penny, that if such template would have been uploaded to ThemeForest reviewers would never accept it!

I completely agree. Really surprised by how bad it is.

fortunately buyers come here for authors work not for how the top header looks.

but having nice clothes when selling is a plus for the vendor. :)

It’s actually kind of funny, most authors from graphicriver, themeforest and codecanyon are saying how bad this design is, while on videohive there is a thread with only good responses (“great design”, “looks much better”):

http://videohive.net/forums/thread/new-interface-envato/116310

So I think this is not as bad to people not related to webdesign, but actual users. My clients still like the tilt-shift effect, while I have seen so many 12-year-olds do it that I can only suggest to move away from that trend :)

Well you know… If I have a 20 year old car it WILL take me to the place I want. But if I had a brand new Ferrari I somehow would be more happy about it regardless of the fact that it does much or less the same thing as the 20 year old junk car. Probably a pure HTML site (like 20 years ago with no CSS at all) would also attract buyers as there is no better marketplace in therms of items quality. As for the header we are talking ONLY about the visual aspect of it (don’t think the UX is that great either, but that’s another story). The fact that “buyers come here for authors work not for how the top header looks” doesn’t mean it can look like crap.

Probably two reasons for this:

1. Authors from Graphicriver, Themeforest and Codecanyon will have design, layout and usability skills and therefore most will know just how much the current design sucks. In fact most of them, like many of us customers, could do better in our sleep.

2. Less popular sections of the marketplace, such as Videohive, are now getting extra exposure via the great big logo buttons that are stuck on the top there.

When I’ve worked for corporates you’re always battling with Sales directors from different departments who want more links and adverts to their own section to boost sales. A familiar request was ‘MAKE MY LINK BOLDER THAN EVERYONE ELSES’, from everyone.

Yes lets make everyone’s links bolder than everyone else, then everyone will be happy and you’ll all equally experience a drop in sales.

Day 3 of using the new menu and I still hate it.

I noticed on a new thread on here about ‘trends’ staff are talking about ‘mega-menus’ and ‘sticky menus’. Maybe pass one that on to your design staff….

I think it is unfair to complain about design and visual aspects. What is important is the purpose for which it added and how that purpose connects and affects the other sections. (cross linking, diversions etc)

For my eyes visually that is perfect. Personally my worry is we are disturbing buyers from deep selection of items.
