I really can’t stand the fact that 5 versions of the same theme is being sold at $25 while my theme including couple of javascript enhaced functionalities is sold at $15 and a theme that contains the same features is rejected

[links edited]

.. and more themes that I don’t want to mention that are from other authors. I mean seriously, you can definately find free themes that are same as those.

Its not a personal thing, so I don’t want to start a war here. I am continously having dissapointments about TF.net and I am seriously thinking taking my business elsewhere.

I really can’t take it especially reviewers keep rejecting things because “visual isn’t good enough” while there are themes that don’t contain a single image while I work my ass of trying to use css spirites for better load times.

Wow. You seem a little upset.

Ok first things first, have you contacted support and ask that your haitian theme price be raised?

Regarding the paper and wood theme, I remember that one and I didnt like the header either. Of course, everyone’s taste are different, but did you try changing the style of the header to please the reviewers request?

Also, I think its a little out of line to call out all themes you feel are subpar and equal to free themes, your not a reviewer and a lot of those are great themes (I know you said nothing personal but that is personal).

“I am continously having dissapointments about TF.net and I am seriously thinking taking my business elsewhere”

Again, have you brought up all of your concerns with the appropriate people? I have found envato’s support and customer service to be the best there is. If you have and you are still having problems, then like you said, no one is making you sell here.

“while there are themes that don’t contain a single image while I work my ass of trying to use css spirites for better load times.”

Images != a quality theme. In fact I am impressed by themes that dont rely heavily on images and still achieve a nice effect. Using css sprites and good coding techniques are awesome ways to code, but that doesnt guarantee acceptance.

I know it sucks to be rejected, I have been many times myself and you wont always agree with the reviewer. You have to take that advice though and put aside any frustration to better improve your theme and overall skills. Whenever I get rejected, I take a few days and try again. If it still doesnt go, then I give it away for free and try again. Use the rejection as an opportunity to grow, not become angry.

Sorry for such a long reply, I tend to type too much :)

Regards,

Drew

Exactly what CreatingDrew said +1 :)

I would suggest you build HTML Templates first to make sure your quality is on par with what they are looking for here. That way you don’t spend too much time on it with WordPress when the HTML Template part of it is the problem.

If you don’t like the way ThemeForest is run then by all means get your business elsewhere. You won’t though and you want to know why? ThemeForest is a unique market place right now and the only place you, your brand or your work are going to get thousands upon thousands of views per month.

No offense but take a step back, take a deep breath, try to relax and evaluate what you are doing and what you may be doing wrong. If you feel you are justified, contact support.

Hiya turkhitbox,

We too have felt frustration at rejection. It can be hard to take when you’ve put so many hours into a design.

Your frustration aside, we do believe that Drew is correct in that publicly calling others’ templates to attention in this manner is unfair to those authors and against Envato policy. We would suggest that you leave your post to gain understanding, but remove the links from your post.

We would also like to suggest taking your fellow authors’ advice into consideration. There is really a lot of support and wisdom here. For us once we are able to think a little more clearly we re-evaluate, pick ourselves back up, and try again.

We hope you reconsider and stick with TF, but if you need to move on, perhaps you will be back in the future :)

Guys I’m not as regular here (yet) but I must say your replies are really well mannered and courteous :)

Turkhitbox, yeah as stated, any one of your concerns can be fairly put forth, but it’s generally not accepted to publicly call out other files on the forum, whether it’s 1 or 20 in this case.

So you’ll forgive me but the links are edited.

CreatingDrew and xmdsys pretty much nailed it with their replies. I for one also encourage you to contact support to expose any discrepancies or inconsistencies you feel your items may have suffered.

Sometimes there is more than one reviewer, nothings perfect. If you feel your item was unfairly approved, let support know, and they will look into it.

Cheers :)

turkhitbox – Please don’t point out other themes. It’s disrespectful. Thank you!

If you’d like to email me at sitemanager@themeforest.net, I’d be happy to tell you why your theme isn’t selling for more.

Its not dealing with the rejections here. In fact, I am happy to see my themes rejected since that means there’s a quality standard. Sometimes, reviewers do point us to right directions.

On the other hand, I am sorry and frustrated to see this kind of inbalance between reviewers. My theme was rejected because it wasn’t compatible with IE6 & IE7 despite my continuous checks with IETester, please try yourself as well: “http://paperandwood.turkhitbox.com” and for the header issue, I am providing a header-only psd file, where user is given a way to change anything he or she wants.

Reviewer also commented that he does not feel that the theme would make enough sales. I don’t think a reviewer can comment on this. A reviewer is web designer like myself who should be able to comment on design and coding, but when it comes to sales, everyone’s taste is different as shown on this thread: http://www.themeforest.net/forums/thread/submit-or-not-to-submit-this/8442

Some people loved it…

Yes, I have reported these themes before and I have contacted support to raise my theme’s value. I like to get recommendations and critics from the reviewers, but still having a “boxed” theme which has color values as ”#000000” instead of ”#000”, accepted 5 times with different css values and a value of $25 ’s for each 5 of them makes me mad.

Just tell me what difference those themes have from this theme I found: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/cognoblue

I found it in 3 seconds listed on the WP theme directory, it was the 5th one listed.

Personally, I quite like your theme, however I do think the header paper has is too dark (looks slightly metallic). Lighten the colours up, perhaps add a faint ‘bumpy’ texture like you see on paper and it’ll look a lot better :)

I think most people may be put off by the header, and it wouldn’t occur to most people to use the PSD to do it themselves (thus affecting your sales).

With regard to the browser compatibility, IE6 isn’t transparent on the sidebar, and the search bar in the header can’t be clicked on correctly.
Firefox 2 also plays up in the main content in a few places (although re-aligns itself when I open Firebug so I can’t really see where the problem code is).

Thanks for your recommandations, I will surely take them into consideration when I re-submit the theme.

The reviewer said that IE6 and IE7 didn’t display the theme correctly, as if the sidebar is not where its supposed to be or the coda slider was not displaying correctly.

Like I said, I am not upset about the rejections or the dislikes about a theme, its the inbalanced situation among themes.
