I’m so sad to hear that.

I’m currently using Dropbox to store all my work, pictures & just about anything that I would need if something would happen to my laptop. Also bought an SSD to replace the sluggish HDD, so I hope I won’t ever lose my precious data :)

Prevention is the key :)

About a year ago I invested in an external (portable) hard drive to store backup. It’s not such a big investment, it cost me around 50 euros, but I now have a safer way to store my data as I can just plug it into the usb slot, backup my data and plug it out – so whatever happens with the power grid, it’s safe because it’s offline.

Although, I recently started thinking about buying some “server” with multiple hard drives in raid mode, because the way it is now, I still put “all eggs in one basket”. While we’re at the topic, anyone has suggestions about such device?

all your data is on the hard disk. Even if its damaged by physically the datas is on the disk. There is a bit more expensive way to reach those datas, but i rather would not do experiments with softwares only if i know 100% is recoverable and no mechanical damage at all. Once i replaced a burned circuit panel from an another HDD it worked, i have used that HDD for years after the “operation”.

This is by far the best program i’ve tested. It has also a “light” simpler version called R-Undelete, that maybe can also help you to recover the files.

Things happen man, it already happened to me once… That’s why I have a “Work” folder on Dropbox which have everything I need to keep producing my feelance work, like preview templates, my logo, assets, ongoing projects, etc…
Now I’m fully prepared for a disaster;

I just save every single project file to a client folder on dropbox. It saves locally and then syncs online. Set and forget.

Sorry to hear man that hurts. I also, have been in your shoes and it is not fun.

I use dropbox and SVN. I Love love love SVN. I created an Envato Folder and I commit every project under SVN. I also come from a Tech background so I use this for all my coding and design projects. It might be a little overkill.
