In 10-15 years from now, there will be only $1 donations per file and gazillions of buyers. That will be the true business. Remember my words ;)

P.S: And no, there still won’t be the promised item forums.

P.P.S: Just pushing you Collis, we really need those item forums :)

This is why I don’t just buy a file, I review it and try it out and see if there is anything wrong with it. And I know that if there is an error then the author will work for me. I don’t think there should be any types of refunds. If the file wasn’t what you wanted then you’re shit out of luck. But if the file is corrupt or something, then you can get a refund if the author does not fix it.

Me too! I also am pushing for them!! Actually we have a design for them, and an alternative design for a different solution to the same problem. But implementing either will be a while, as it always is :-) But we’ll get there!!!

I’m pretty satisfied with Collis’s replies so far and with the idea of tossing aside the 100% money back guarantee policy for the moment.

Giving Collis’s replies here http://themeforest.net/forums/thread/refund-deductions/30322?page=18#284993 , the refund policy now sounds reasonable.

Awesome to hear, although the “will be awhile” part is a little disheartening

Hehe, true! I think I’m slowly becoming pessimistic about how long development can take. I used to over promise things all the time – “That will be done tomorrow!” only to learn that what I was promising wasn’t possible.

So now collis = under promise, over deliver!!! :-D

I just think its pretty awesome that you take time out of your busy day to respond and have conversations with authors

If I order a pepperoni pizza and it comes out cheese… they don’t automatically refund me my money back and let me keep the cheese pizza… they’re more likely to make me a new pizza with the pepperonis I asked for and still let me keep the cheese pizza because it costs them less and they don’t have to refund the all the money…

But they probably would have offered a refund if you didn’t have time to wait fro another pizza. Actually here’s a real-world example from last Friday when I and a few friends were out at a relatively posh Italian restaurant (first visit for all but one of us):

My one friend’s meal (scampi) was a bit rubbery and she ate only a few mouthfuls. Unfortunately that night the service was slow (it is one of the largest restaurants I’ve ever been in, second only to the Cafe Royal in London, and it was packed); by the time the waitress came back to our table after serving the main course we were almost finished, and of course my friend complained about her meal. The chef came out to our table, apologized and offered to make her anything she wanted, without delay. My friend had no interest in ordering another meal and having us all wait for her. So the restaurant not only deducted the price of her meal from the bill ($40), but also did not charge for the bottle of wine we’d had ($38) and gave us all (6 of us) free Tiramisu dessert to go and said if we drop the chef’s name next time we come in we will receive “special treatment”.

Believe me: that response completely turned around the negative opinion we were busy forming of that restaurant (well, it may not have made much difference to the mealless friend :) ) and I will certainly be going back ( but then my Lobster Carbonara was divine ;) )

I still do that! What’s the cure?

I tried your solution but instead of “under promise, over deliver” it came out “under promise, lose project” :(
