Yes, additionally the files with better rate of sales (obviously listed in weekly popular) are listed UP in the FD search results and gaining more exposure.
Recently the Blog shows some popular files as well. Also there are some 3rd party listing sites which voluntarily promoting flashden files are mostly choosing from weekly popular.

^ I know VF, I’m just teasing. It’s the best selling file of all time so its listing is rightfully deserved

haha, I think that file got over exposure after reaching certain number!
What I think is better than before is that when brand new users visit the front page (not logged in) the Popular Files button is very prominently placed. I am sure many will hit this button and get to see the cream first, buy then come back logged in and do what the rest of us buyers do, keep revisiting to see what new files are here.
If it was my site I would of gone one further and if not logged in you see the most popular files where the recent files are.

-1, sorry. The homepage should be for new files – they don’t get enough exposure anyway and another “popular tab” would take away too much attention.

I have to say, I like the new style. I like the fact that a single click takes you to see ALL the popular files, both by week and by month as well as the popular authors. On the old version, popular files were not immediately visible either. Although they appeared on the home page, it also took one click to see them – and then only the 21 most popular files of the week.
Is that not an improvement?
What would be an even bigger improvement though is if the weekly popular files were done on a rolling basis i.e. the last 7 days. At the moment, a lot depends on what day of the week your file gets approved.
Likewise for the three montly popular. Uploading on the 15th does not help your chances.
