I'm building a home office in the backyard. Any advice?

Last post for a while – I’ve been hogging the thread for long enough today!

Over the weekend my 22 year old son volunteered to fill the gaps for me, since I’d put my back out and could hardly move. We purchased a few gap-filling options to experiment with, and he decided on expanding foam. It ended up being a quick but cheap job.

We may need to do a bit more work in this area in a future to make sure it is really vermin-proof.

Today the carpet was laid. We chose some relatively inexpensive grey carpet. The carpet-layer had some extra work to do cutting in around all the corrugations in the metal. He did a great job.

Here’s how it looks right now:

I just finished vacuuming it. I was surprised that the room without glass doors was significantly cooler than the other two rooms. The sun was shining directly through the doors, and the sun’s pretty strong today. We’ll need to put some heavy blinds up.

We were gathering some supplies in the hardware store today, and I came across some inexpensive dark bamboo blinds:

I thought it might be an inexpensive way of making those walls look less boring, so bought a couple. I’m also thinking about experimenting with some inexpensive insulation options, and the blinds would cover up the mess until we get the walls lined… eventually.

I’m going to try hanging the blinds now, and if my back is up to it, I’ll set up my router and start moving some furniture in after that.

It’s getting there.

I’m meeting with the builder next week to go through the final bits and bobs.

I will be posting before, during and after photos on here with details of costs and techniques used.

I haven’t moved everything into the office yet, but I have set up my desk.
