Sincerely working/living/sleeping in the same room is becoming like a jail. It’s almost a year that I’m here on my own and would be great to have a workspace like this.

I’ve also a garden, the little point is that in Italy for a structure like this you have to do a lot of bureaucracy and pay taxes

Now that the floods have gone and the wedding’s over, it’s time for another update.

We visited the hardware store again yesterday to chat about filling gaps and vermin proofing. There seems to be so many opinions on this! We picked up some products to try. I’ll report back on this soon.

Tomorrow the electricians arrive to bring over the power and data, set up power points and lights (and a sub board), and install the air conditioners.

So today we had to get a 2 foot deep ditch dug for the conduit.

We were discussing doing this ourselves, though I was never that keen about the prospect. So we called in the professionals. Lucky call, since we discovered that under the topsoil is solid rock.

A quick half hour job took over two grueling hours. The rock closest to the house was so difficult we gave up. We called the electrician for options, and he said we could leave that section a little shallower as long as we covered the conduit with cement.

The rest of the ditch was almost as rocky. But in the finish the guys won.

We’ve had the electricians out for the last two days getting everything sorted.

We now have power, lighting and data. We also have power and switches organised for the air conditioning, but they haven’t been installed yet. And there’s still that big ditch in the yard waiting to be filled!

• Get the gaps around the bottom of the walls sealed,
• Have the rooms carpeted,
• Install air conditioning.

We may move in and start using the rooms before they are air conditioned. There’s only three weeks of summer left, and we’re running out of money! We’ll eventually also look at getting the walls and ceiling lined and insulated.
