I was wondering if there has been any talk about allowing for larger file uploads larger than 1GB. I have a few 4K stock timelapse files in my portfolio now; however, when I rendered them out I had to decrease the quality of them in order to comply with the 1GB limit. With 4K gaining more popularity, I would like to start working on some more of my files to offer 4K. Can anyone offer any insight into this, has this been talked about and maybe I missed it?

Max, I agree with your proposal! 1gb for 4K file is not so much. 1gb is like 20-30 second with not highest quality. There are not so many 4K files yet and they are not sell good yet, but it probably will change very soon.

Currently limit is 1gb for any file. I thing if no possibility to increase overall limit than good desicion is to have smaller limit for all files (1gb or even less) and higher limit (like 2gb) which would require some justification from author, for example quality 4K content or valuable project with many files included, etc.

Best Regards, Andrey

Surprisingly, I opened a support ticket for this exact reason yesterday! :)
I’m working on a massive project and I want to give my clients the best quality out there and big variety at the same time…Why limit creativity with file size ?

Hopefully this will change soon…

I’m with you, it’s painful having to compress footage with fine grain to h264.

Ok. I see. In a case you will get an official answer please let us know. It is a nice idea to increase upload file size.

I got an answer: Basically saying it can’t be done.. :\
The project than I’m working on includes amazing pre-renders that I had to encode to fit under 1gb. (and that’s after I had to leave some of them out…therefore my item will worth less)

It’s really painful for me to see the project after encoding, some color corrections just look horrible when applied to encoded pre-renders.
On the opposite side, the 16bit pre-renders in a 16bit project come out magnificent….

Hi friends!

Ohh sad news. Btw I just did simple and rough math.
I calculated average of stock footage files size on page 1 – 330mb (vary from 57 to 998 mb) and calculated same average files size on page 600 (where we definetely had 500mb limit). Guess what average was in the past? – 300 mb (vary from 28 to 494 mb).

It looks like after limit increase from 500mb to 1g actual average file size increased not that much (+10%)!
Of course I calculated averages for 2 page only which is 30 items now and 30 items 1 year back and this is not precise average and I did it for one category only – stock footage. But my assumptions that average is about correct and conclusion is very simple – Envato may safely increase upload size with no worry for getting so many huge files – no! Average will increase but most people will still upload reasonable files way less upload limit and not more than it needed to good item also keeping in mind how difficult to prepare/upload unreasonably big files.

Just another 2cents. :-)

Best Regards,
Andrey
