I like to have a bit of background music as I work – it’s one of the best things about being a Freelancer, nobody in your office to moan when you put Celine Dion on
Thing is, I kind of get bored listening to the same old CD’s so what do YOU listen to as you design? Here’s my CD choices:
- Mellow/Minimalism: ‘Moby’ or ‘I Am Kloot’
- Grungy: ‘Foo Fighters’ or ‘Red Hot Chilli Peppers’
- Funky designs: ‘Public Enemy’ (I’ve loved em since ‘87)
What do you listen to as you design?
Radiohead, Muse up to Story of the year, Rise Against while designing.
Atreyu, Rage against the machine, System of a Down, Pendulum etc when coding.
I could never concentrate with the first playing.
Once you get good, then you don’t really have to concentrate, it comes naturally. (At least that’s the case for me).
Not trying to sound cocky by the way..
I find soundtracks particularly inspiring- lately I’ve been listening to The Dark Knight, District 9 and a few others.
Aside from that, I also listen to Radiohead and Muse while designing.
I was introduced to him by a buddy of mine that makes Drum & Bass (UKToolbox).
He has released two compilations of songs available for download on his page, check them out when you have the time.
By the way, the genre is known as DnB or Liquid DnB.
You might also check out Oscillist – Spires.

A little off-topic but have you seen ‘District9’ ? Is it any good??
