Hope competition (if any
) among search engines will keep them improve towards useful direction.
Very interesting talk. I’ve never actually thought about that, even though I started noticing this filter bubble effect subconsciously
thanks for share!

I think any kind of competitiveness will never improve democracy. But at least it avoids an unique point of view / ethic.
The other day, talking with a friend that owns a restaurant here in Madrid, we ended up talking about client preferences in this hard economic moment we are living in Europe. In a moment of the conversation he said “i would wonder to know what all the people that walk in this street are looking for…” Suddenly i thought about Google, that receives this “looking for” information, day by day, on almost each street of the world. Amazing… and pretty scaring.

That video is enlightening.
So, let’s say some big dog pays Google or Facebook to hide some inconvenient news and voilà we are as ignorant as all todays traditional newspaper readers and tv chimps.
That sounds like old business converted to new economy. I personally don’t watch the tube since a decade, just because I know all the stuff they say or do is controlled and filtered by some rich jackass behind the scene. I really hope the same won’t happen online.

Very interesting. The same sort of thing is going on with the news media here in the U.S.

^ News media is completely under Political control in Southern part of India (atleast in my State). Each and every Channel has its own supporter and news comesout after all kind of transformations: Bend, twist, lathe, drill, weld, fit, paint, tinker, skew, inverse…
The funny thing is everyone knows it happens.
