GreenPaw Website

Disclaimer: GreenPaw is a paid app, but it offers 60 days of free trial. If mods think this topic is bad idea, please lock/delete it.

GreenPaw was released back in April and the response has been great. People loved the UI, but I received tons of requests for push notifications and reports for crashing, so I decided to make a new version. So here is what’s new:

- Push notifications - Milestones - Referrals and sale reversals in your timeline - Lots of new statistics: next commission, paw and elite status progress bars, product charts and more - The app loads your data much faster. On my account (19 products in one marketplace) I measured 8x – 10x increase in speed. - Sync with all your devices – you check the app on the iPhone, you see 5 new sales. Open the app on your iPad, those sales aren’t new anymore. Stuff like that.

All these features and improvements have been made possible by the fact that the app now runs on a powerful Node.js server. When you refresh the app, the server does all the heavy lifting – it fetches all your comments, refreshes all your product, fetches your vitals, calculates all statistics and sends you only the information that’s new. This dramatically increases the app’s performance. And since everything happens on the server, the app still loads just as fast even on a slow 3G connection.

Okay, cool features, but what about the pricing? Some people have expressed concerns about it – $5/month. And I can see their point. The truth is, GreenPaw is an app for an extremely small market, and it doesn’t make thousands of downloads each month. In fact it barely made more than 30 downloads per month. I think $5/month is the right price for the features that you get, and the development time this app has consumed, which is months.

- I’m using the app but it’s buggy! There are bugs, I admit. Turns out testing the app with 5 users is one thing, and testing it with 200 users is a whole different story :) This wasn’t the launch that I was hoping for and I’ve been working around the clock to fix everything. With the recent changes that I made on the server today, the app has been working perfectly, at least so far. Push notifications are working and all data should be correct. No more server crashes or mixed data. The reason for all the bugs – JavaScript and it’s damn global variables and Node.js’s stupid async MySQL queries. Oh well.

Because of the issues that the app was having I will be restarting the beta timers for all users really soon.

One last thing, I want to say BIG thanks to all users who decided to support my work by purchasing a subscription so early and despite the bugs. I also want to thank all users that sent me valuable feedback by email, on Facebook or by simply using the app.

Thanks for reading. Here are a few links:

I paid for this app not 2 months ago, and now I have to pay for a monthly suscription. This isn’t very serious.

Well that is natural, I mean this app is an ongoing expense for the author, and the price is fine if you ask me.

@nickys looks great, too bad I’m an android guy, good luck.

I don’t have any plans to port it to Android, at least for now. Too much pain :)

It was better to leave the 1.0 app the way it was, just solving the bugs. And add the 2.0 with new functions and 60 days trial with subscription option.
Lot of apps have two versions in the appstore: one free with limited functions and one full.

To avoid misunderstanding – version 1.0 was not free, it was a paid app. But with version 2.0 you download the app for free, and after the two months of trial expire, you can continue using it with limited functionality, for free.

Yep sorry, i meant the non-monthly subscription version.

I bought the app a couple of months ago, but i wasn’t expecting to be dragged into a monthly fee. I understand the reasons and the price is fair, but the process is not totally right.

I, for one, like the new version and will have no problem paying $5/month for it, since it’s an ongoing expense for the developer. good job! ;)
