Hey everyone,

I was wondering, does everyone get the feeling now and then that they actually suck? I mean, sometimes, I get back at my designs and say “Gee, how come people actually purchase this?”. I find the colours wrong, the spacing out of control, typography all over the place, etc.

Is this a unviversal kind of thing? I feel tired and overwhelmed… :S

Jup. I sometimes see code I wrote last year and I feel like I must’ve been 8, judging by the poor tabbing, silly comments and overall lack of proper structure. :P I guess it only means you’re ever improving, which is a good thing!

Definitely. I’m frequently appalled by my previous work. I’d say this feeling takes about a year to develop on average.

Can only be a good thing.

After spending 2 years developing a mega site, we took a break of six months. I have been working solid for eight weeks cleaning up our code.

By mega, over 5 million lines of code.

With a further three weeks solid for three of us until we can launch. So yup, you never ever stop learning.

Happens all the time! Like Joost said, it only means we’re improving, which is a good thing! And I agree with DesignDeposit, this feeling takes about a year to develop on average for me also. Some of my older projects I wonder how I felt they were good! This applies to everything, design, coding, photography, etc! We’re allways learning and changing somehow :)

If I look back my 3-4 years old items, I feel ashamed! But wait, there are few opposite cases too… some of the old works done 7-8 years back still looks fine, there is no linear rule for this psychology.

That one morning that you get up and realize that all that’s been great until last night when you went to bed now looks like trash.

And you ask your family and they answer you but you believe they only answer you because they do not want you to start over again.

And you realize that no matter if you start this project over or convince yourself that it’s not that bad it’s a long way forward.

Van Gogh lost an ear that way.

What’s worse though is going through life believing that you are great and never realizing when you suck.
