I just noticed that all new submissions are being copied onto a 3rd party site. This is not a piracy thread because they are not offering an illegal download.. but it is kind of fishy that all new items (across all marketplaces) are being copied onto this person’s website with a referral link back to the original item. I looked at the person in question’s profile.. they have over 500 referrals and NO items at all. Isn’t that leeching? Is this allowed?

If this is allowed, then I might as well pull some shady crap like this.. make some useless website that mirrors Envato’s thousands of items to give myself referral money.

Referral cut is a serious business for some, being the only thing they are good at. No harm done.. they just advertise stuff for that cut.

Nothing to stop you doing that, not that I can think of. It’s not exactly entirely “leeching”, since it’s still promoting the items and giving them sales in the process.

Not possible to stop, we have to live with those. I remember once my items directly managed to rank better in google but after few months all those referral link sites started dividing the search result (description copy/paste). From logical point of view, that actually prevents/diverts a searcher from easily reaching the relevant item page but as overall strategy, those referral sites makes it difficult to those who reaches pirate links accidentally – so there are some benifits with hardcore referral guys! :D

For VideoHive and After Effects projects this is a common thing, you can find tons of websites copying previews and descriptions and reffering back to originals. On youtube you can find every project 2-5 times and always uploaded by a different person. I’m trying to be positive about this, because they are actually bringing new buyers to the marketplaces.
