Hi everyone,

I’m Vahid and I am the General Manager of the Marketplaces. The recent PayPal issue is the direct impact of a small increase in fraudulent transactions we experienced recently. When this happens PayPal tightens it’s parameters to stop this fraudulent activity, but also occasionally has the outcome of voiding a real transaction.

We are in daily contact with PayPal to minimise the impact of these measures, and hopefully refine them, but this is a lengthy process. The PayPal system is very complex and takes many variables into account, which is why some buyers have have reported both failure followed by success later when some aspect of the transaction was changed.

While the data from PayPal indicates the changes have only affected a very small percentage of actual transactions, for those affected it is extremely irritating and frustrating. Worse yet there is often no logical way to understand why some transactions work while others do not.

This is a really tricky situation as we need to balance the need to protect our authors from fraud and dispute issues, with wanting our sites to be accessible to everyone. If you are amongst those affected, I am sorry for the frustration this has caused.

If you are affected and can pay by Moneybookers/Skrill, that should resolve the problem. If you do not have access to Moneybookers, I can only suggest you contact PayPal to resolve the issue. In the meantime we will continue working with PayPal on our end. Again, we truly apologise for this inconvenience.

Maybe someday Envato will use https://stripe.com/ or https://squareup.com/

That would be pretty awesome! They both are pretty awesome startups!

I think stripe’s not yet available outside of North America. Not sure if Square does ‘card not present’ transactions which are needed for online payments.

Neither of your payment options are working and it’s creating a real headache for me… can you please offer some feedback as to where this stands? This is not a small number of users, we’ve tried three different people, accounts at paypal and about 9 different credit cards.

That latest update for those still having issues is still from Vahid above.

As he mentioned, you may try to contact PayPal directly. When we get more information we will update this thread accordingly as we’ve been doing. :)

I appreciate that but I prefer to not have to go out of my way to spend money with you. I would prefer that you find another payment option like 2checkout or whatever will accept your business.

Paypal will not accept payment from me. I have tried on two different cards, and it just gives me an error of “Your deposit of $20.00 was unable to be processed by PayPal. Please try using a different credit card, or we also support Moneybookers deposits.”

Unfortunately, due to legal restrictions, Moneybookers will not accept payments from Illinois in the US.

I have no way to give you money…..and I really want to.

Have you opened up a Support ticket yet twolightcrew? We’ll be able to contact PayPal and see if we can figure it out for you. Thanks!

I will open up a support ticket later this afternoon. It really is bad practice for you customers to have to open a support ticket just to give you money.
