Now I wonder If I create a theme can I put and iStock image in live preview (not in the download)? I would buy pics ofc, but not include then in download package, but I put them in live preview. Is that against rules? Thanks…

I think that would be alright, but if you wanted to include it you’d need to get the extended license for the photo.

Yes but what I want are photos of e.g. furniture for ecommerce site.

As long as you remove it from the final download it is not against the rules.

One could also argue that the Live Preview is just a link to your own personal blog where you are running your own theme, that’s all. So images used there could be for “personal use” right? This way you can use any images you want, except those forbidden for personal use, like istock. But movie screenshots, mobile phones, most products, wallpapers etc should be fine right? The whole internet is blogging and use those images, so why couldn’t we? Of course you can’t put it in the download package

What do you guys think about this?

I am on your side and do this all the time…I use mostly whatever i can find to frame a design together (placeholders) and sell it naked, or with new properly licensed assets.
