The person identified as [CENSORED], did one project for me for $120.00. Encourage by the results I proposed a second project. The estimated cost was $200.00. After paying $100 advance she is not doing the work and she has not replied to any of my emails for the last 5 weeks.

I am not blaming Activeden (Envato); however if Activeden has a way to warm the community please do before she takes advantage of others.

tsafi,

My request for freelancing help does not deal with large project. I am trying to learn AS3 I develop my

files but not knowing AS3 all that well I need someone to code (fix my files) in a way that little by

little I learn something that will help me in the future.

Having lost $100 I am nervous about submitting my requirements. You appear to have replied honestly so I am will to try again. Below you will find the requirements submitted to [CENSORED]. If you know someone trustworthy who doesn’t mind doing small project in AS3 please advise. My needs will be ongoing. Has I learn something new and want to make my files more appealing more and more request will come.

Hi [CENSORED],

I did a little research on OOP , Design patterns(mvc, singleton, factory). The mvc and singleton seam too advance for me. Factory looked fairly easy to build web site (most things are simple until you start). OOP does have interest for me if I understood right. When I code in VBA , I create reusable Public and Private Function. I see this quite useful in the future.

What I understand in Flash are things like:

For , while, if..else..else if, switch…case, the syntax is slightly different but I use this in VBA .

I have a good understanding of variables and arrays. I can manage substring. I have a good understanding of eventListener as they relate to mouse event. I finally understood the advantage of using movieClip as button but that is about it.

I use loaders, containers, URLrequest but don’t completely understand. In other words I copied code and sometimes it works. I don’t have a clue how to communicate with a loaded swf. How to create playbar, volume control and drag actions. I am also bad at eventListerner (other than buttons).

I am 61 years old so I don’t learn all that fast. I usually have a better chance of learning when it is not theoretical but project oriented. Here is what I propose:

Place the code that unloads a swf to play the next one based on the button click into the file I sent you. Put sufficient comments for me to follow the logic. This will make my fla useable. I will then create a new fla and try to code it properly. Once I have completed this then… I would like to learn how to communicate with the loaded swf. For example, trace(totalFrames), trace(currentFrame), stop and start the loaded swf, turn volume on and off. And again with lots of comments on how that works. I would like to learn how to build a playbar from scratch. I am not quite sure how we do this but maybe you write the detail steps and create a simple fla that will have to code according to your description. If I can manage this then I would code it into my fla. Learn how to do a volume control in the same way as the playbar.

This is not cool looking Flash but it is something I need and it will motivate me to work harder. Once I have completed this, I would like you to suggest how to create class (public functions that simplifies the code in the action panel).

If you are willing to help me, please come up with a fee and will see were this goes.

Thanks,

[CENSORED]

Calling out people on the forums is not allowed, under no circumstances. I’ve censored the names. If you want, you can contact Envato Support and let them know about the issue, but the forums is definitely not the right place.

I realise you’re only trying to help by warning fellow users and I appreciate your intentions, but these things can get quite out of hand if we’d allow these kind of threads. I hope you understand :)

jmartel37 .

first of all most of the flasher/developer on AD we know one other on some level if it’s on personal level or the way they are been active on the forum or base on their files, if you are part of the AD group community none of us will jeopardize our name with bad freelance work, we have much more to loss and we are not that of big flash community this days …so i don’t know what happen there.

Let’s put some topics on the freelance work on AD and tell you my personal experience and rap the topic: .

I can only advise you how things work here from what i see and know as i have been member here for some time now, first most of the request here this (on the forum) days for freelance work been select by price and not by skills if you ask me, the more skills you have as a developers the more you charge.

Second before we charge i personally any way, always ask to see some reference to show me how this going to integrate on what you have if it’s your website, app atc` unless it’s a scratch work, this way i can estimate in more reliable way the price issue cos` most of the novice flasher really don’t know what they are talking about when it comes to flash (with respect ) .

Then we agree on the price on each day i update the work on my server so you can see, it’s a pain way doing things, but this way the client know what he will get and know i won’t run with money and in my experience i always get great feedback’s this way and i want the client to be happy …good happy client will always come back to us for more work.

Good flasher up to $500 budget shouldn’t take more then 4-5 days from start until deadline so you do your thinking how things should go, and deadline deadline and more deadline, if i don’t make the deadline after all we agree, i cleared money from the budget usually $50 its depend on the budget, this is how we do thing`s in the pro world .

Note that i pick also my client and i refuse lots of freelance work here i can already see after many years in the flash world the problem i will face with a client.

Now… what you just describe is ok but the part of you trying to learn AS3 is nothing to do with me /us(this is in general most flasher here will say no to you ), we work fast take our money when client is happy and move on, by all means it’s not our job to teach you flash unless you pay for it and a lot …. (No wonder i quit teaching flash :P ) i do give some help and support to my extends reasonable judgment, but i think most of us here are very patient and sensitive regarding this topic .

AD files are not that great place to learn from if you are not a skill flasher most of us are fully object oriented programmer and each flasher work/code differently this is why most of our file modification her been done outside the IDE platform (IDE=in simple word the flash software ) like XML or flash var(HTML) .

Hope this help for your next searching for flash freelancer
