I am relatively new to Graphic River, and I recently uploaded some files for sale, which all got rejected, with the following message:
This File Did Not Meet Our Criteria
Unfortunately this file does not meet GraphicRiver’s strict aesthetic guidelines and cannot be approved.
Now, my designs are quite minimalistic, so if that is the problem then I know what to produce for next time, but I understood that minimalistic designs were acceptable (of course, it is always a possibility that the designs were poor!).
Firstly, was a set of buttons, which I produced for the Web Elements section of Graphic River, you can see the representation I produced here: http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/2999/representation.jpg
I also produced a business card, which you can see here: http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/2999/representation.jpg
Finally, I produced a resume, which you can view here: http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/2369/representationm.jpg
I would be exremely grateful for any feedback I can get, so hopefully I can produce a product of high enough standard to be accepted!
for the button set: the idea to mix metal effect with glass it’s good man!! but the appeal it’s too amatorial try to take inspiration for some cool file on marketplace like this http://graphicriver.net/item/21-web-button-ultimate-collection-part-2/39941
Hey, thanks for your feedback!
When you say “the appeal it’s too amatorial”, what do you mean by that? Is there anything in particular, or is it because it’s just a plain rounded rectangle, and it’s only therefore the idea that differentiates it from anything else?
If it is then I’ll get my paper out and start drawing up better buttons!
I recently had another item rejected, this time a corporate set, which you can see here: http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/2999/representation.jpg
I’m not sure why, I thought that that was a reasonable quality.
I’d appreciate any enlightenment.
Here’s my opinion about some of your uploads:
First of all I like the metallic buttons you uploaded and like catamatto said, it’s cool effect when you mix metal and glass. I have two suggestions:
1) I’d like to see a little white border (not bigger than 2px and opacity 30-50%) so the shadow and gradient would be clearly apart from each other.
2) Maybe the gradient could be from light gray to dark gray (now it’s dark, light, dark), it would better suit your minimalistic design.
I hope that these suggestions help you somehow.. And by the way maybe those arrows (download and upload buttons) could be shorter? I think that they would be good if their height would match the height of the text. Just an idea!
About the corporate set, I don’t really understand why it was rejected. I’d use it right away, because those colors really are fantastic! Great work. I don’t see any bad things but maybe those ellipses on the bottom left corner could be more in the middle? I think that they are too close to the border..
Anyways have a nice weekend!
Thanks alot Timo!
Yea, I don’t understand the reason for the rejection of the corporate set, I’ll e-mail and try to find out.
Thanks for your suggestions, I think that it is definitely worth me developing the buttons as they seem to be liked.
Have a good weekend yourself!
I’ve found two places which might be one of the possible factor for rejection. The color of the text is too light comparing block’s bg color. This could result in heavy strain on the eye while trying to read the printed material. You could darken the bg color a bit to make the text readable. Otherwise, your item is really nice.
Also I’d like to give you an advice that whenever you upload a preview of your rejected item, it’s a good practice to put your watermark on it.
Ahh, I see, thanks for the advice!
I’ll try and darken the text, and make it a little more aesthetically pleasing, are there any technical reasons why it might have been rejected?
I made sure it was in CYMK colour etc.
Hello, I contacted the Reviewer about the corporate set, and he gave me the following message:
Your file was rejected because the design was not good enough and did not meet our high standard/level of quality as per the rejection note we sent. Two separate reviewers looked at your file and both agreed that it simply was not good enough.
I’m not 100% sure what was wrong with the design, but I can understand that there might have been.. something missing.
So hopefully, this streak of rejections will make me a more competent graphic designer!
I have some ideas of why the corporate set did not make it through.
Typically and especially in the print world… a solid colour dark background on corporate stationary just doesn’t work. How can you print these without having to use a massive amount of ink. Typically a letter head for example is left blank white in the main body text area for a good reason, so that it can be reprinted as a letter through an office laser or inkjet printer.
Your preview also doesn’t help. I can hardly see enough detail to make a full and fair judgement of whether this product would suit my needs. The colours are great, but maybe they are not right for this project (the background in particular as mentioned). I can see some areas where proximity is an issue. Some of the type is cramped and way to close to the page edges. The ‘private and confidential’ label is aesthetically not pleasing IMO . It sits very close to the header and traps a slither of contrasting background which is distracting to me, it causes conflict visually. The preview text describing what the file includes should probably have ‘mm’ to indicate millimetres next to the numerals.
I hope that helps.
